Boat repair sourced, overseen, and reviewed before you approve it

Miami has no shortage of mechanics. What it has a shortage of is anyone reading the quote on your behalf. Vantage sources the right vendor, stands there while the work happens, and puts a licensed second opinion on the bid first.

Vantage manages the repair, the specialists perform it

Worth saying plainly at the top of a page about repair. Captain Trace does not rebuild engines, lay fiberglass, or dive your running gear. Those are trades, performed by licensed and insured specialists who do them every day.

What Vantage does is the part owners handle worst on their own: knowing which Miami-Dade mechanic or yard is actually right for the job, getting them to the boat or the boat to them, reading the quote critically before it is approved, watching the work, and checking it before sign-off.

In a market this large, the scarce thing is not capacity. It is a second opinion from somebody who is not billing for the repair.

How a repair runs

The same four steps whether the job is a quick fix or a bigger one.

  • Found early

Most jobs surface on a weekly visit rather than as an emergency, and you get them in writing the same day with photos and a plain reading of how urgent they actually are.

  • The right vendor

Sourced from a working network of Miami mechanics, marine electricians, electronics techs, divers, fiberglass shops, and the river yards. Chosen for the job and the boat.

  • Independent bid review

Scope, labor hours, parts, and what has been left out of the number. Read before you approve, by a captain with no stake in it being higher.

  • Overseen and recorded

Met at the boat, watched while it happens, checked before sign-off, and logged with the invoice and parts into the boat's maintenance record.

What breaks on Miami boats

Every one of these is repaired by an independent licensed specialist. Vantage sources, coordinates, oversees, and reviews.

  • Raw water pumps, impellers, and heat exchangers after a strainer packed up with grass
  • Air conditioning pumps and units, which fail in the months they matter most
  • Bilge pumps and float switches that quietly stopped cycling weeks ago
  • Batteries and chargers on boats used a handful of times a season
  • Shore power inlets and cords degraded by heat, salt, and humidity
  • Fuel contamination and water in the tanks on a boat that has sat
  • Running gear damage and vibration, often first noticed by a diver
  • Gelcoat and rub rail damage from wake and dock contact in a busy bay

Why the review matters more than the referral

Anybody can hand you a phone number. Miami has thousands of them. The number does not tell you whether the quote you get back describes the job your boat needs, whether the hours are realistic, or whether the parts are specified because they are required or because they were assumed.

Every quote gets read against the same questions before it comes to you: is this the right job, are the hours in line with the work, are the parts sensible, what has been left out, and what actually happens if this waits until the end of the season.

Vantage takes no percentage of any vendor's invoice. That is the only thing that makes the answer trustworthy.

Common questions

Can you get a mechanic to Key Biscayne or the Grove quickly?
Response depends on the trade and the time of year, and you will get an honest estimate rather than an optimistic one. What helps is that the call comes from somebody the vendor already works with, which in this market counts for more than any published response time.
Do you use the Miami River yards?
Yes, for haul-out, running gear, fiberglass, and anything that needs the boat out of the water. Which yard depends entirely on the job, and that decision is part of what is being managed.
Can I keep my own mechanic?
Yes. Vantage coordinates with the vendor you trust, meets them at the boat, oversees the work, and still reviews the bid before you approve it.
Do you mark up the vendor's invoice?
No. The retainer pays for the management and the review. A second opinion is worthless if the person giving it earns more when the number goes up.
