Yacht management on Biscayne Bay, run by the captain on your boat
A weekly check aboard, a bi-weekly wash, vendors sourced from a working Miami-Dade network, and every repair bid reviewed before you approve it. One licensed captain covering the Grove, Key Biscayne, Miami Beach, Haulover, and the river.
Biscayne Bay is harder on a boat than it looks
Miami boating looks easy from the causeway. It is not, at least not on the boat. Warm shallow water grows a bottom in weeks, the bay is thick with wake traffic almost every day of the year, sun exposure runs twelve months, and the boats that live here are frequently the least used and the most neglected in the state because their owners are somewhere else.
Vantage runs the same weekly program in Miami-Dade that it runs everywhere: a licensed captain aboard the boat every week, sea strainers cleaned on schedule, a bi-weekly wash, and a written report the same day.
Repairs go through the same discipline. The vendor is sourced from Captain Trace's own network, the work is overseen at the boat, and every bid gets an independent review before it reaches you for approval.
What management covers here
Four parts, run by one captain rather than divided across a fleet department.
The weekly check
Bilges and pumps, shore power and batteries, the engine room, sea strainers, through-hulls, dock lines set for the tide and the wake, climate, and the state of the finish. Written up the same day with photos.
Washes on schedule
A full bi-weekly wash, and after every trip at the Full Management tier. Salt in this bay does not wait for the boat to be used before it starts working on the stainless.
Vendors managed
The mechanic, the diver, the electronics tech, the canvas shop, the Miami River yards. Sourced, scheduled, met at the boat, and overseen through to sign-off.
Bids reviewed independently
Scope, labor hours, parts, and the omissions. Read by a licensed captain with no stake in the number going up, before you approve anything.
What shows up on Miami boats that sit
None of these are dramatic on the day they start, and all of them are expensive by the time an owner notices.
- Bottom growth measured in weeks, not months, in warm shallow bay water
- Constant wake in the bay working dock lines, chafe gear, and fender placement harder than in a protected canal
- Air conditioning failures turning into mildew through a closed interior within weeks
- Sun damage running year round on canvas, isinglass, and unprotected finish
- Batteries taken flat on boats used a few times a season and left on a failed charger
- Grass and floating debris packing raw water strainers after any weather
- Storm season decisions that need to be made in May rather than in August
Common questions
Not seeing yours? Contact us.
- Do you cover Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove?
- Yes. The Grove, Key Biscayne, Virginia Key, Miami Beach, and the Aventura and Sunny Isles side are all inside the corridor Vantage works in Miami-Dade. If the boat is on the water down here, ask about her specific location rather than assuming.
- Do you work with the Miami River yards?
- Yes. The river is where most serious work on a Miami boat happens, and knowing which yard is right for which job is a large part of what a vendor network is worth here.
- My boat is on a lift behind the house. Does that change anything?
- It changes the maintenance profile, not the need for the visit. A boat on a lift avoids most fouling but still has batteries, bilges, fuel, canvas, and a finish taking full sun, and it is more likely than any other boat to go months without anyone aboard.
- What happens in the summer when you go to Maine?
- It is agreed with every Florida owner in advance: a continuing schedule, a coordinated local vendor, or a proper lay-up plan for storm season. It gets planned in the spring, in writing, not improvised.
