Yacht cleaning kept on schedule, inside and out
The expensive cleaning failure on a Miami yacht is almost never the hull. It is a closed interior with a failed air conditioner in July. Vantage checks the climate on every weekly visit, keeps the wash on a cycle, and scopes the deeper work without selling it.
On a larger boat, the interior fails before the finish does
Owners think about yacht cleaning as an exterior problem: salt, stainless, glass, the hull she is judged on from the dock. In Miami the expensive failure is almost always inside. A closed boat with a failed air conditioner in July grows mildew through the headliner, the upholstery, and the joinery in a matter of weeks, and that is a refit line item rather than a cleaning one.
Which is why cleaning on a managed boat is not a separate service booked when she looks tired. It is a scheduled part of the weekly program, and the interior is checked on every visit rather than on the visit before you arrive.
Captain Trace does the scheduled washing and the routine interior care himself. Deeper work, upholstery restoration, teak and joinery, machine correction on the finish, is scoped by him and performed by specialists.
What stays on schedule
The routine work Captain Trace does himself, on every visit, whether or not anything looks wrong.
Exterior wash cycle
A full bi-weekly wash, and after every trip at the Full Management tier. Topsides, house, hardtop, hull sides, non-skid, glass, isinglass, and stainless dried rather than left to spot.
Interior climate and dryness
Air conditioning confirmed running and holding temperature on every visit, humidity watched, and the boat aired and left dry. This is the single highest value thing anyone does on a closed Miami boat.
Soft goods and surfaces
Upholstery, headliner, carpets, and joinery checked for early mildew and staining, so it is cleaned while it is still a wipe-down rather than a restoration.
Canvas and isinglass
Cleaned with the right products, checked for stitching and chafe, and re-treated on a cycle. Isinglass is among the easiest expensive things on a boat to ruin with the wrong cleaner.
Before guests, a charter week, or a sale
A deep clean before a specific date is a project, and it is planned as one rather than squeezed in.
- Scope agreed against the date, so the boat is ready the day before rather than the morning of
- Interior deep clean including galley, heads, bilges, lockers, and the places guests do find
- Exterior detail scheduled with enough margin for weather and for coatings to cure
- Canvas, isinglass, and covers cleaned or replaced with lead time factored in
- Stainless polished where it is genuinely needed rather than everywhere for the invoice
- Provisioning and the boat cooled ahead of arrival, if that is part of the trip
- The whole thing inspected by Captain Trace before you or a buyer step aboard
Why the person cleaning should not be the person selling the detail
On a yacht there is no natural limit to how much cleaning, polishing, and coating can be recommended, and the party recommending it is usually the party billing for it. That is not dishonesty, it is just an incentive nobody is balancing.
Vantage balances it. Captain Trace does the routine work himself and takes no percentage of any specialist's invoice, so when the answer is that the boat needs a proper correction, that recommendation is worth something, and when the answer is that she just needs washing more often, you get that instead.
Every job, invoice, and product used goes into the boat's maintenance record, so what was done to her finish is a fact rather than a memory.
Common questions
Not seeing yours? Contact us.
- Do you provide crew for cleaning a larger yacht?
- Vantage is one captain, not a crew agency. Routine washing and interior care are his own work, and a job that genuinely needs a crew is scoped and sourced from specialists who bring one, then inspected before sign-off.
- How often should the interior be cleaned on a boat that sits?
- The cleaning matters less than the climate. A boat kept cool, dry, and aired needs very little interior work. A boat left closed with a failed air conditioner needs a restoration. That is why the air conditioning check is on every single weekly visit.
- Can you prepare the boat for a sale or a survey?
- Yes, and both are worth planning early. A boat that presents well and has a real maintenance record behind her makes a buyer's surveyor comfortable, which is worth money at exactly the moment you want it to be.
- Do you take a commission from the detailing shop?
- No. The retainer pays for the management. A recommendation is only useful if the person making it earns the same either way.
