Miami

Boat washing on a schedule, and hull cleaning on its own

Detailing in Miami is usually sold as a rescue job once the boat already looks tired. Vantage runs it the other way round: a full bi-weekly wash inside the weekly program, hull cleaning coordinated with a diver on its own interval, and correction work only when the finish genuinely needs it.

In Miami, washing is the cheapest maintenance there is

Twelve months of direct sun and salt do more damage to a boat in this county than use does. Gelcoat that goes chalky, stainless that tea stains and then etches, isinglass that hazes, canvas whose stitching gives up a season early: almost all of it traces back to salt that was left to dry on the boat instead of being rinsed off.

Captain Trace does the washing himself, on a fixed cycle, as part of the weekly program rather than as a job you have to book. On a bi-weekly cycle the boat gets a full fresh water rinse and wash, and at the Full Management tier she is also washed down after you use her.

Correction work is different. Compounding, oxidation removal, ceramic coating, and interior detailing are trades performed by specialists. Vantage scopes what the boat actually needs, sources the shop, reviews the quote, and inspects the work, without taking a cut of it.

What the scheduled wash covers

The same steps, run in the same order, every time the boat is washed.

  • Full fresh water rinse from the hardtop down before soap touches anything
  • Topsides, house, hardtop, and hull sides washed with a marine soap that will not strip wax
  • Non-skid scrubbed rather than sprayed, where salt and grime actually collect
  • Glass and isinglass cleaned with a dedicated product, never an ammonia glass cleaner
  • Stainless rinsed and dried so it is not left to spot and bleed
  • Cockpit, gunwales, covering boards, and steps wiped down
  • Canvas and covers rinsed and set correctly before the boat is closed
  • The boat left dry, closed, and secured the way she was found

Hull cleaning on Biscayne Bay

Warm shallow bay water grows a bottom faster than almost anywhere Vantage works. A film becomes a beard in weeks, and the bill arrives as fuel burn, vibration through the running gear, and bottom paint that has to be redone earlier than it should have been.

Hull and bottom cleaning is diving work, so it is coordinated with a diver on an interval matched to where your boat actually sits. A boat in a Grove slip fouls differently from a boat off Sunny Isles or one on a lift, and the schedule should reflect that rather than a generic monthly number.

Between dives the waterline and boot stripe are watched from the dock on every weekly visit, and the diver's report on running gear, props, and zincs goes into the same maintenance record as everything else rather than into a text message.

Correction work, scoped honestly

The specialists do the work. These are the calls that get made before you approve their quote.

  • Compound and polish

Machine correction for gelcoat that has gone flat, followed by a sealant or wax. A boat that needs a wax should not be sold a two-step correction, and a boat that genuinely needs correction should not be handed a wax.

  • Oxidation and staining

Chalky gelcoat, rust bleed from stainless, and waterline staining. Handled by the specialist, inspected afterwards rather than accepted on the invoice.

  • Ceramic coating

A protective layer that cuts the ongoing wash burden, but only worth applying over a surface that has been properly prepared. Recommended when the finish underneath justifies it and not before.

  • Interior detailing

Upholstery, headliner, and the mildew that Miami humidity produces in a closed boat. Arranged with the right shop and checked on completion.

Common questions

Not seeing yours? Contact us.

How often should a Miami boat be washed?
Bi-weekly is the working minimum, and after every use on top of that. Monthly washing in this sun and salt is how a four year old boat ends up needing correction work.
Do you dive the bottom yourselves?
No. Bottom and hull cleaning is diving work and it is done by divers. Vantage sets the interval, coordinates the diver, and makes sure the report on running gear and zincs actually reaches you and the maintenance record.
My boat is on a lift. Do I still need hull cleaning?
Far less of it, which is one of the real advantages of a lift. What a lift does not solve is sun, salt spray, and everything above the waterline, which is where most of the maintenance on a Miami boat actually is.
Can I book a one-time detail?
Detailing shops here will happily take a one-off job, and Vantage will point you at a good one. What Vantage sells is the scheduled care, and the honest scoping of correction work when the boat truly needs it.
